Nutritious Ground Beef Preparation
Ground Beef provides Nutritional benefits: 1.) Helps build cells (bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood), 2.) Boosts immune system, 3.) Supports Hormone production and 4.) Replenishes dietary iron. Typically when a cook is draining ground beef after browning it, the collagen is drained and discarded with the layer of fat. It is easy to separate out the fat from the Collagen – which is in a gelatin form when cooked out of the beef. This recipe shows how to save the collagen when draining ground beef.
- Start by browning ground beef in a frying pan.
- Once the ground beef is browned, add 1 to 1 1/2 cups of water, and bring back to a simmer
- After the ground beef simmers in water for a minute or two, drain the ground beef with the liquid into a bowl.
- Let the liquid cool. The fat layer will rise to the top and the remaining liquid (containing the collagen) will become a gelatin at the bottom part of the bowl. Place in a refrigerator for quicker cooling.
- After the liquid cools, the fat layer will rise to the top and the remainder (containing the collagen) will become a gelatin at the bottom part of the bowl
- The fat is then a solid layer and is easily removed. You may remove the fat then add the remaining liquid back into the ground beef.
